Sanders to Serve on Kidney Board

M. Lee Sanders, MD, PhD, Clinical Assistant Professor in Nephrology and Hypertension, has been named to the Iowa/Nebraska Board of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF). The NKF is the leading national professional organization committed to the prevention and treatment of kidney diseases. They achieve their aims through a variety of means including philanthropy, sponsoring screenings and fund-raisers, and advising on public policy.

Dr. Sanders returned to the University of Iowa in 2015 after completing fellowships in both general and transplant nephrology at Vanderbilt University. His internal medicine residency was completed in Iowa City after he received his MD, as well as his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. His commitment to the prevention and treatment of kidney disease among Iowans (and Nebraskans) shows in his willingness to serve on the NKF chapter board. “The NKF does a lot of outstanding activities,” Dr. Sanders says, “and I hope I can increase these activities in Iowa City and the surrounding area.” Dr. Sanders is especially interested in increasing awareness about organ donation.
