It’s another tip on writing your affiliation(s)! When noting an affiliation, such as on the title page of a manuscript, think largest to smallest: University, Department, Division, Section.
Because all of our health care colleges, hospitals, clinics, and departments fall under the University of Iowa umbrella, I generally advise that listing University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, UI Health Care, or Carver College of Medicine is not necessary. Affiliations are much simpler using the encompassing “University of Iowa.” For example: University of Iowa, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Immunology.
If it is necessary to list a college or other group, again, list from largest entity to smallest. For example: University of Iowa, College of Public Health, Department of Biostatistics.
Multi-disciplinary affiliations should be listed the same way: University of Iowa, Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center, or University of Iowa, Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
