Harland elected to FACET leadership

Every year the Fellowship Administrators in Cardiovascular Education and Training (FACET) schedules their meeting to coincide with the American College of Cardiology (ACC). While a sizable contingent of Hawkeyes logged on to the virtual ACC meeting, one member of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine was signed in to FACET’s meeting.

Cari Harland, Cardiology Fellowship Coordinator, has been involved with FACET since its official founding in 2014. A couple years ago she was elected as a member-at-large of its governing board. And now, as a result of this year’s FACET meeting, Harland will become the next Chair of the organization, which is dedicated to providing education and support resources to training programs, educators, and their directors.

For the next two years, Harland will serve as Vice-Chair / Chair-Elect, followed by two years as Chair. FACET serves as a useful resource for fellowship program administrators and coordinators around the country, allowing for easy exchange of ideas, information, and methods to ensure the best possible professional and ethical learning environment for cardiovascular fellows.

After letting her program membership know, Harland received many words of congratulations and support. Edward Powers, MD, third-year fellow, said, “I’ve been telling recruits for the past two years that you are the best in the country and now I have proof.”

Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship Program Director Ferhaan Ahmad, MD, PhD, FACC, told Harland that her election was “a well-deserved recognition, but we did not need the ACC to tell us that you are a fabulous coordinator!!! I am honored to work with you.”
