Abu-Ghazalah named Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division Administrator

Mazin Abu-Ghazalah, FACHE, has been named Division Administrator for the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Internal Medicine. Abu-Ghazalah is entering the role following the departure of Robert Jones earlier this year. The department is grateful for the continuity provided by Administrative Services Specialist Hilary Humphrey in the interim.

Abu-Ghazalah has more than 20 years’ experience in administration and management in both private and academic medical centers. He joins the University of Iowa from the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System in Chicago. In his time at UI Health, he served as Director of the Neurosciences Center, Senior Director of the Patient Experience, and Interim Clinic and Finance Director of the Transplant Center. In all roles he managed large teams of physicians, nurses, medical assistants, clerical staff members, and others to develop, track, and meet both institutional and more localized goals, ranging from financial to patient satisfaction. He has consulted with and worked in many health systems, helping implement process improvements, communication enhancements, and other upgrades within their organizational cultures all aimed at improving the patient experience. Prior to UI Health, Abu-Ghazalah worked at Advocate Healthcare in Illinois focused on the patient experience and as an administrator in Pediatrics at Montefiore Medical Center in New York.

Given Abu-Ghazalah’s wide-ranging experience managing a variety of clinical operations and working with a diverse population of providers and specialties, we are certain he will continue the tradition of innovation and growth in our Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Please join us in welcoming Mazin Abu-Ghazalah to Iowa!
