Abboud, Yorek land on the wall

After last year’s inaugural inductees were added to the Wall of Scholarship, with 10 of the 32 publications within the Carver College of Medicine coming from Internal Medicine faculty, it was no surprise that a year later fewer total would be added to the Wall.  Still, the department’s ratio to the rest of the college improved.

Five publications from current faculty passed the 1,000-citation mark, gaining eligibility for induction in 2020, with two of those five from Internal Medicine researchers. François M. Abboud, MD, MACP, published “Sympathetic nerve activity during sleep in normal subjects” in the New England Journal of Medicine in February 1993. A separate 1995 publication by Abboud in Journal of Clinical Investigation was inducted in 2019. Mark Yorek, PhD, published “Membrane lipid composition and cellular function” in the Journal of Lipid Research in 1985. This is his first publication to be inducted.

After remarks from Carver College of Medicine Dean Brooks Jackson, MD, MBA, and a presentation to each individual inductee, friends, family, and colleagues mingled and posed for photographs.
