2019 Newly Promoted Professors

In the atrium of the Eckstein Medical Research Building, in front of the newly christened Wall of Scholarship, 19 faculty members in the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine received their due recognition for a career excelling in service of academic medicine. Two of those 19 are members of Internal Medicine, Krista Johnson, MD, MME, and Rebecca Tuetken, MD, PhD.

A tradition for each promotion class is to ask each new professor to select a quote that is personally meaningful or perhaps summarizes their professional philosophy.

Johnson selected:

“One of the essential qualities of the clinician is interest in humanity, for the secret of care for the patient is in caring for the patient.”

Francis Weld Peabody (1881–1927)

Tuetken selected:

“If life seems jolly rotten
There’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you’re feeling in the dumps
Don’t be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle, that’s the thing.”

Eric Idle, “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”

Congratulations to the new Professors of Internal Medicine!

Special thanks to Susan McClellan for the photographs and to Denise Jurca for helping organize the event. (And for everything else Denise has done for the Office of Faculty Affairs and Development and for this department.)
