UIHC’s Heart and Vascular Center Town Hall, 7/15/16

Last week, providers and administrators gathered in the Medical Alumni Auditorium for updates on the good work, the progress, and the road ahead for the UIHC’s Heart and Vascular Center (HVC), in which many Internal Medicine members play a significant role.

Cathy Pierce, Chief of Operations at the HVC, guided the attendees through a summary of the numbers from year to year, noting a ten percent increase overall in patients treated. Ms. Pierce also noted that the HVC recently performed its 250th transaortic valve repair since becoming the first institution to perform the procedure in 2011.

She outlined her team’s overall strategy and methods and pointed to a number of recent high-profile campaigns from newsletters to events to branding activities. Tina Clair, Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation, then gave a brief history of the methods and underlying philosophies in cardiac rehab over the last hundred years leading to an overview of today’s. Ms. Clair outlined objectives and introduced inpatient and outpatient team members, as well as the growth of the UIHC service in the last few years.

Elizabeth Moore, RN and ECMO Program Coordinator, provided updates on the clinical space itself. Ms. Moore gave some reminders on how the current space is organized and offered a sneak peek of what the new outpatient clinic, set to be complete in about a year, will look like.

Jennifer Erickson, HR Manager for the HVC, closed the hour out with some milestone recognitions and announcements of new team members joining the group. We hope those new members know what a clearly strong and thriving center they’re about to join.
