Iowa receives continued CFF accreditation

Providers at University of Iowa Health Care learned this week that they have earned continued accreditation from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). The CFF establishes a standard of care based on guidelines developed with leading experts and based on peer-reviewed evidence and research. By adhering to those guidelines, establishing meaningful quality improvement, and undergoing a rigorous site review, our care team once again received the highest recommendation from the international non-profit, a five-year accreditation.

HornickWaysonThe accreditation of Iowa’s CF care covers both adult and pediatric providers. Both the adult team, led by Dr. Doug Hornick, and the pediatrics team, led by Dr. Tim Starner, are composed of advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dieticians, and nurses. The adult care team includes Internal Medicine faculty members Drs. Tahuanty Pena, David Stoltz, Mahmoud Abou Alaiwa, and Lakshmi Durairaj.

Each member of these teams has contributed to this reaccreditation as well as the programs’ continued successes, said Dr. Joseph Zabner, Director of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Occupational Medicine. Dr. Zabner offered his congratulations to all the members of these teams for their “major accomplishment,” citing in particular Dr. Hornick’s and ARNP Brian Wayson’s leadership of the adult care team.
