Internal Medicine Residents’ Graduation Celebration

Last night, the Department of Internal Medicine formally recognized the efforts and achievements of its dedicated and talented doctors as they move from one stage of their careers to the next.

In the Feller Club Room inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Residency Director Dr. Manish Suneja served as the evening’s master of ceremonies, offering some jokes, lightly roasting a few residents, as well as helping to announce each graduating resident. After a few words from Department Chair Dr. Dale Abel, they delivered each resident his or her certificate of completion.

Dr. Suneja also announced the winners of two awards, voted on by the residents themselves. The Residents’ Award for Excellence was given to Dr. Andy Johannes, who is also soon to become one of the next Chief Residents. The Faculty Teacher of the Year Award was given to Dr. Laurie Lyckholm, Professor of Hematology-Oncology. Congratulations to both Dr. Johannes and Dr. Lyckholm on your well-deserved recognition.

The Department expresses its deep appreciation for the extraordinary efforts made by Dr. Suneja and the rest of the Residency Program Administration and staff. It is because of your combined dedication to providing the next generation of physicians the best education possible that the future of medicine is ensured. We owe you our gratitude and hope that the rest of the Department will join us in thanking you.

Of course, finally, congratulations to our departing and graduating residents. Wherever you go next, whatever you do, you should know that the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa will be proud of what you achieve.
