Two postdoctoral research fellows in the Inflammation Program have each been selected as finalists for the 2017 Society for Leukocyte Biology (SLB) Presidential Award. Three finalists are chosen each year in the junior faculty/postdoctoral scholars category and Dr. Silvie Kremserová and Dr. Christine Cho have each earned one of those spots. (Dr. Kremserová was featured in the August 2016 Spotlight. Dr. Cho is an Infectious Diseases fellow as part of the College’s Physician-Scientist Training Pathway. Both of them work in Dr. Bill Nauseef’s lab.) Dr. Kremserová and Dr. Cho will deliver oral presentations as well as present posters at the 50th Annual Meeting of the SLB in early October in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Dr. Kremserová will present her abstract, “Insights into lysis of human neutrophils after S. aureus ingestion,” and Dr. Cho will present her abstract, “Human neutrophils exhibit delayed apoptosis and secrete IL-1ß after phagocytosis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.” Their selection as finalists ensures a travel stipend to Vancouver, where they will then compete for cash prizes. Congratulations to Dr. Kremserová and Dr. Cho on this remarkable achievement. Good luck in Vancouver!
