The Department of Internal Medicine would like to introduce the newest members of the Division of General Internal Medicine, who joined the faculty in July. We are pleased to welcome them to the department and look forward to introducing you to the new faculty members of our other divisions in the coming weeks.
Luna Acharya, MBBS – Associate
Dr. Luna Acharya joins the Division of General Internal Medicine after completing her residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. She received her MBBS from Kathmandu Medical College, Kathmandu University, and completed a Masters in Clinical Psychology at Tribhuvan University, both in Kathmandu, Nepal. Dr. Acharya’s clinical interests include academic and research-focused hematology/oncology. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, hiking, and traveling.
Saeed Ali, MBBS – Associate
Dr. Saeed Ali joins the faculty in Hospital Medicine. He earned his medical degree at Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, Pakistan, and completed his internal medicine residency at Florida Hospital Orlando (AdventHealth Orlando Hospital) in 2019. Dr. Ali enjoys playing tennis, squash, cricket, badminton, and soccer. He will be married in September.
Hirva Bakeri, MD – Associate
Dr. Hirva Bakeri joins the Division of General Internal Medicine after completing her internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington. She received her MD from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, after earning a Masters in Medical Science there. Dr. Bakeri’s clinical interests focus on endocrinology and preventive medicine. Her hobbies include traveling, reading, swimming, and spending time with family and friends.
Andrew Bryant, MD – Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Andrew Bryant joins the Division of General Internal Medicine after completing his internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado in Denver. He received his MD from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington. Dr. Bryant’s clinical and research interests include medical education and clinical reasoning. Outside of work, he enjoys exploring the outdoors with his wife and two English springer spaniels, woodworking, attempting to maintain the yard/garden, and fanatically cheering on the Denver Broncos.
Kimberly Dukes, PhD – Research Assistant Professor
Dr. Kimberly Dukes comes to the Division of General Internal Medicine as a Research Assistant Professor from her recent position as Assistant Research Scientist in the Institute of Clinical and Translational Science here at Iowa, where she also served as Co-Associate Director for Evaluation Research and Assistant Director for Community Engagement. She received her PhD in Anthropology from Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. Dukes’ research interests include health disparities, infection prevention, cancer experience, community and patient engagement, rapid response systems, and qualitative research methodology. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family, writing, photography, and cooking.
Carolyn Hilliard, MD – Associate
Dr. Carolyn Hilliard joins the Division of General Internal Medicine after completion of her internal medicine residency here, where she served as a Chief Resident. Dr. Hilliard received her MD from St. Louis University School of Medicine. Her clinical and research interests include inflammation and aging. When she isn’t working, Dr. Hilliard enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, biking, reading, and writing.
Hariharasudan Mani, MBBS – Associate
Dr. Hari Mani joins the Division of General Internal Medicine following a recent position as a Hospitalist at Marshfield Clinic in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He also served as a Clinical Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Family Medicine program and Medical Director at Dove HealthCare Nursing Home and Assisted Living in Osseo, Wisconsin. Dr. Mani earned his MBBS degree at Thanjavur Medical College in India, followed by an internal medicine residency at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Mani’s clinical interests focus on solid tumors, lymphoma, quality improvement projects for inpatient stay, and end-of-life care. In his spare time he enjoys yoga, biking, tennis, and movies.
Katie Melton, DO – Associate
Dr. Melton returns to the Division of General Internal Medicine after completing a Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship here. She received her DO from Des Moines University and completed an internship at UIHC, followed by residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. Dr. Melton’s clinical interests involve working with patients and families to understand the differences between palliative care and hospice support, as well as improving communication between healthcare providers and patients and families. Her hobbies include spending time with family, hiking, biking, singing, cooking, and attending WERQ (hip-hop cardio dance class) as much as possible!
Mohamed Taha, MBBS – Associate
Dr. Mohamed Taha joins the Division of General Internal Medicine after completion of his internal medicine residency at the University of Nevada in Reno. He earned his MBBS from the University of Khartoum in Sudan, followed by a Masters of Science in Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of South Wales in Cardiff. Dr. Taha’s clinical and research interests focus primarily on cardiovascular disease, with particular interest in preventive cardiology and cardio-oncology. In his spare time he enjoys playing and watching soccer, traveling, exploring new cultures, and hiking.
Abdul Wahab, MBBS – Associate
Dr. Abdul Wahab joins the Division of General Internal Medicine following his residency in internal medicine at Unity Hospital/Rochester Regional Health in Rochester, New York. He received his MBBS degree from King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan, followed by internal medicine residency training at Hamad General Hospital in Doha, Qatar. Dr. Wahab’s clinical work and research focus on pulmonary and critical care medicine. In his free time, Dr. Wahab likes to watch sports and movies, listen to music, and explore new places.
James Willey, MD, MSE – Associate
Dr. James Willey joins the Division of Division of General Internal Medicine following his residency in internal medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He received his MD from the Carver College of Medicine, as well as an MSE in Biomedical Engineering from the College of Engineering here at Iowa. His clinical and research interests include point-of-care ultrasound and outcomes data, focusing on quality improvement. Dr. Willey’s hobbies include swimming and reading.
