Gaddam receives AHA postdoctoral fellowship

Ravinder Reddy Gaddam, PhD, postdoctoral fellow in the Vikram Lab, received his second American Heart Association (AHA) Postdoctoral Fellowship. Gaddam plans to determine the role of microRNA-122 in the development of endothelial dysfunction and non-dipping hypertension—blood pressure that does not “dip” during sleep—during diabetes.

Gaddam’s primary sponsor, Ajit Vikram, PhD, assistant professor in Cardiovascular Medicine, and co-sponsor, Kaikobad Irani, MD, professor in Cardiovascular Medicine and Radiation Oncology, assisted in shaping Gaddam’s proposal. They will continue to support him in completing the proposed research. The new grant will begin in July 2021 and continue until 2023.

“Dr. Gaddam cuts through the heap of information, identifying the center of interest for his study,” Vikram said. “In this study, he will explore next-generation microRNA inhibition technology to treat diabetic vasculopathies.” Similarly, Gaddam’s previous AHA Fellowship examined miRNA-204’s role in vascular dysfunction during diabetes.
