Dhanesha receives ASH fellow award

Nirav Dhanesha, PhD, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Dr. Anil Chauhan’s lab, received an American Society of Hematology (ASH) Fellow Scholar Award. The ASH Fellow Scholar Award has financially supported hematologists in their early career for more than 30 years. Dr. Dhanesha, along with ten other fellows across the country, will receive $100,000 to support basic or translational research that increases the understanding of blood disorders.

“I really appreciate the excellent commitment from the Department of Internal Medicine, and I will constantly need it in the coming years to move forward in my career,” Dr. Dhanesha said, thanking Dr. Dale Abel and his mentors, Dr. Chauhan and Dr. Steven Lentz, for their guidance.

In July 2017, Dr. Dhanesha was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the American Heart Association. Using this funding, Dr. Dhanesha researched the mechanisms that promote thrombosis in comorbid conditions of hyperlipidemia, specifically the role of integrin α9β1.
